Purdue Off to Texas Relays and Bobcat Invite

AUSTIN, Texas and SAN MARCOS, Texas. – The Purdue track & field team's outdoor season continues with a trip to Texas for the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, from March 28-30.
 
The Boilermakers will have representatives from each event group at both meets this weekend, with several athletes set to compete in both Austin and San Marcos.
 
Fans unable to cheer the Boilermakers on in person can follow along with live results (Texas | Bobcat) and the meet schedules (Texas | Bobcat). The Texas Relays will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network and ESPN+. While the Texas Relays began on Wednesday with combined events, Purdue will make its debut in Austin on Thursday, March 28, with the hammer throw at 3 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. CT. The team's first event on the track is at 8:32 p.m. ET / 7:32 p.m. CT, with the last race set to conclude at approximately 11:45 p.m. ET / 10:45 p.m. CT. On Friday, March 29, running events open the day at 10:35 a.m. ET / 9:35 a.m. CT, followed by field events at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT. The Boilermakers' last event should conclude at 7:25 p.m. ET / 6:25 p.m. CT. The meet wraps up on Saturday, March 30, with the squad's first field event and finals on the track at 2:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. CT and the last final finishing at approximately 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT.
 
Meanwhile, the Bobcat Invitational begins for the Old Gold and Black on Thursday with the pole vault and long jump at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT, and the team's running events commence at 7:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. CT. Action on the first day will conclude by approximately 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT. Friday will see field events starting at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT and running events going from 8:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. CT until 10:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 p.m. CT. Saturday's finale begins with field events at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT and Purdue's running events at 3:35 p.m. ET / 2:35 p.m. CT. The weekend will finish at about 6:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. CT.
 
Purdue's travel roster to the Lone Star State features 43 athletes. 27 men and 16 women. The Boilermakers have 31 entries at the Texas Relays and 23 at the Bobcat Invite.
 
The 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, one of the most prestigious national meets, is hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium. Texas State University's Bobcat Invite is at the Texas State Track & Field Complex, 31 miles south southwest of UT's track.
 
PURDUE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Boilermakers are represented three times in the top-25 in the first weekly national TFRI individual rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Sophomore Seth Allen is No. 10 in the discus, thanks to a mark that ranks No. 3 in school history, and junior Rieko Wilford is No. 18 in the triple jump. The men's 4x100 relay also checks in at No. 25.
 
DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, ONE YEAR AGO
Last season, the Boilermakers were back at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invite for the first time since 2017. Purdue earned four top-10 marks in school history from March 29-April 1, 2023.
 
Two top-10 times in school history were run at the Texas Relays, including in the 4x400 final where the Boilermakers posted their fastest time in the event since 2018. Meanwhile, Wilford notched one of two top-10 marks at the Bobcat Invitational. She had a career-record jump of 12.90m in the triple jump to place second overall and move up to No. 4 all-time with the best jump by a Boilermaker since 2014.

LAST TIME OUT: OPENING THE YEAR IN FLORIDA
Sophomores Seth Allen and Leo Maxwell notched top-10 throws in the discus and hammer throw, respectively, and Allen and Wilford won their events at the season-opening USF Alumni Invitational from March 15-16 in Tampa, Florida.
 
To cap a week-long spring break training trip, the Boilermakers totaled two wins, 13 top-five finishes and 15 personal-best marks at the two-day event.

NEXT UP: COMBINED EVENTS IN ARIZONA
Purdue's combined events athletes will travel to Arizona next weekend for the Jim Click Shootout. Competition is set for April 5-6 in Tucson, Arizona.
