Where does Texas basketball's Rodney Terry rank in coaches' salaries in the Big 12, SEC?
When it comes to Big 12 basketball, Texas coach Rodney Terry lands right in the middle of salaries for coaches, based on reporting by the USA Today.
But he’ll rank near the bottom of the SEC once Texas joins its new conference July 1.

Terry ranks 40th in the nation and seventh in the Big 12 with a total compensation of $3.05 million, per reporting by USA Today. That includes bonuses totaling $350,000 earned during the Longhorns’ run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in the 2022-23 season.
Terry was hired as the permanent head coach following last year’s NCAA run after serving on an interim basis in the wake of the firing of Chris Beard in January 2023. He signed a five-year, $15.3 million contract with a buyout of $7.2 million in March 2023.

Kansas’ Bill Self is the highest-paid coach in the nation with a total compensation of $9.63 million. Baylor’s Scott Drew (sixth, $5.13 million) and Houston’s Kelvin Sampson (ninth, $4.61 million) join Self in the top 10. TCU’s Jamie Dixon, Kansas State’s Jerome Tang and Oklahoma’s Porter Moser also rank above Terry.

Terry would rank 13th in the SEC, based on this year’s salary report. Kentucky’s John Calipari (second, $8.54 million), Auburn’s Bruce Pearl (fourth, $5.72 million) and Tennessee’s Rick Barnes (fifth, $5.7 million) pace the SEC coaching salaries.
Beard, now at Ole Miss, ranks 32nd in salary at $3.25 million a year.
