Jeffrey Demetras, OBITUARY

JEFFREY DEMETRAS Jeffrey Demetras, a long time Chico resident, master craftsman, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully at home on February 19th, 2024. He was affectionately known to family, friends and colleagues as “The Greek.” As a local craftsman there is hardly a neighborhood in Chico or surrounding Butte County that he didn’t work on and leave his mark at one time or another. Jeff was born on February 14, 1952 in San Francisco, CA to Waunita and Leonidas “Leo” Demetras. At the age of eight, he moved with his parents and siblings (older sister Andrea “Andi” and younger sister Diane “DD” Demetras) to Chico, CA. As a young boy Jeff soon discovered Bidwell Park where he and his friends would spend countless hours exploring, swimming, and fishing. As a teenager he could be found riding motorycles in Upper Park and at Cycleland. Jeff attended Sierra View Elementary, Bidwell Jr. High and Pleasant Valley High School (Class of 1970). After high school Jeff set out on his own and followed his older sister Andrea, to Santa Cruz, CA. There he sparked a romance with Chico native, Susan Toussaint that would last the next 50 years. Jeff and Susan moved back to Chico and were married on July 9th, 1977. They welcomed their son, Nicholas “Nick” Demetras, a few years later in January 1981. Jeff was a loving father who never missed one of Nick’s many sporting events growing up, always found the time to take his son fishing and revelled in shared projects through the years both in Chico and at Nick’s home in Santa Cruz, CA. Jeff is survived by his loving wife Susan Toussaint, son Nick, daughter-in-law Morgan and two cherished grandsons, Leonidas and Augustus Demetras, sisters Andrea Demetras of Maui, Diane Demetras and husband Marcel Indik of Los Angeles, and several adored nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother Waunita, father Leo and best friend of over 60 years, Billy Brownell. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please attend a youth sporting event, take a walk in Bidwell Park or catch up with friends over a cold beer at Joe’s Bar. Share your thoughts online at NewtonBracewell.com.
