Edna Merle Hayes, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born to Robert Preston and Vera Mae Ragan on September 13, 1930, in Cowarts, Alabama. She will be missed by many.

Ms. Edna and her family moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1958 from Columbus, Georgia. For 41 years, she was a devout member of Bible Believers Baptist Church and a loyal follower to Brother Dennis. She was a true Seminole fan and often attended FSU football and baseball games, in addition to working at the Sweet Shop and FSU Student Union. In 1992, she retired from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Above all else, Ms. Edna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She put her children’s happiness above all else, celebrating and encouraging all their achievements.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vera Ragan; her adoring husband of 34 years, William Hayes; her brother, Buck Ragen; her sister, Bernice Reese; and her grandson, Jason Tillman.

She is survived by her daughters, Gina Ouzts (Randy), Jill Thorne (Troy), and Wanda Tillman; her grandchildren, Mitchell Tillman, J.W. Ouzts (Amber), and Josh Ouzts (Paloma); her great-grandchildren, Ulee Tillman, Haylee Ouzts, Mica Tillman, Olivia Ouzts, Reagan Ouzts, and Carter Ouzts; among many other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held at Abbey Funeral Home on the evening of Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 6:30-8:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, at Bible Believers Fellowship Church. Please arrive around 11:00 AM to join us for food and memories.
