Police interrupt burglary at Union Avenue pet store

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say they caught a group of burglars in the act early Thursday morning stealing from the Hollywood Feed on Union Avenue.

They took one person in custody and recovered more than $2,700 worth of pet-related merchandise.

According to the police report, officers driving by the store in the 2000 block of Union Avenue at around 4:30 a.m. noticed a white Ford pickup backed into the business and three men dressed in black loading items into the truck.

The officers said they also saw that the front door of Hollywood Feed was shattered.

Police said all three suspects ran from the scene, but they were able to catch one of them. They said the man had several rolls of change in his pocket.

MPD said several bags of merchandise from the store were in the bed of the white truck, and there was a black cash register drawer in the driver’s seat.

The burglary happened three days after three men robbed the Game X Change next door.

Police released video of the armed robbery on Facebook but did not say if they believed the two crimes were connected.

MPD says the Game X Change robbers left with cash, smartwatches, and cell phones.

The Hollywood Feed suspects took dog food, collars, treats, and bones, which were then returned to the business.

So far, Hollywood Feed has not commented on the break-in.
