YouPorn Offers $100k To Fund COVID-19 Relief Projects

This article is more than 4 years old.

It was only a matter of time before there would be an altruistic porn angle with the growing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This time, instead of search traffic prompting notice, it's money. YouPorn, the porn site you visit when the family reunion has been postponed due to social distancing, is announcing a $100,000 fund (SFW link) to help support COVID-19 relief projects.

Technology companies are hopping in to help solve, treat, supply and research this thing. There are testing apps in development. Home engineers 3D printing much-needed medical supplies, artificial intelligence projects and tech CEOs being annoying before hopefully doing their part.

There are already over 24,000 COVID-19 research papers. Open datasets are being created to consolidate research and share information. This is what society needs right now. It needs its scientists, engineers, programmers and researchers (and medical people with specializations I cannot pronounce) to come together to share data.

It also needs some of those people who might not be associate with a large corporation or well-funded think tank. And that's where funds like the one from YouPorn come in.

“We believe technology will play a vital role in the creative and collaborative solutions to reduce the impact of COVID-19 worldwide,” said Charlie Hughes, Vice President of YouPorn in a press release. “Now in the face of a pandemic, YouPorn will continue our efforts to look for ways to offer assistance to communities around the globe. Our only hope is that this fund will provide support to the teams that are working tirelessly for a solution. Working on 3D printing medical supplies? Innovating improvements in rapid diagnostic technology? We want to hear from you and we want to help your team make this happen.”

$100k does seem like a drop in the bucket, but it could be enough to jump-start life-saving research or medical device design that could revolutionize how these diseases are treated. It could bring an idea out of a basement and into the research labs of mainstream science. It's something, and that's better than doing nothing.

Engineers, scientists and innovators are encouraged to submit their projects to for funding through the email on the SFW landing page.
