Caleb Marasca, Lilyann Blood win online vote for Seacoast hockey Players of Year

The Oyster River High School boys hockey team capped off the winter season with a Division II state championship, and there were many strong individual efforts across the Seacoast hockey rinks this year.

Exeter High School's Lilyann Blood and Dover High School's Caleb Marasca won our online poll for girls and boys Seacoast hockey Players of the Year, respectively.

Marasca received more than 29% of the votes with a total of 744. Spaulding junior Ryan Dube was second with 464.

Winnacunnet's Brady Thompson (341), Oyster River High School's Cam Miner (298), Marshwood/Noble/Traip/Sanford's Ayden Lockard (194), Exeter High School's Cam Keaveney (193), St. Thomas Aquinas High School's Jackson Estes (171) and York High School's Luke Douris (158) rounded out the seven nominees.

Marasca had 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points this season, earning him a spot on the Division II all-state second team.

"An outstanding group of hockey players up for the award, I’m extremely proud of the season Caleb had and the leadership he showed on our team this year," Dover head coach Mike Young said. "He lead by example on the ice, he competed every single shift on both ends of the ice. Every time he put the Dover jersey on he was an unbelievable teammate. I’ve very happy for him receiving this well-deserved award."

Blood received more than 48% of the votes with a total of 798. St. Thomas Aquinas/Winnacunnet/Dover's Julianna Grella was second with 443.

St. Thomas Aquinas/Winnacunnet/Dover's Christi Trudel (201), and Oyster River/Portsmouth's Eliza Farwell (135) and Kira Jakobs (79) rounded out the nominees.

In Exeter's first-round win over Concord, Blood assisted on the game-tying goal, and scored the game-winning goal. For the season, Blood, who scored Exeter's lone goal in its tournament loss to BG, had 39 goals and 16 assists, both team highs. Exeter finished at 14-6.

"Lilyan was our senior captain this year and was such a force on the ice," Exeter head coach Andrea Nichols said. "She was someone I could turn to in any situation and she would shine. I am extremely proud of everything that she accomplished this year and earning this award really proved how valuable she was to our team."
