ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Health says older New Mexicans should get an additional COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccine has been updated for 2023 and 2024.

“Most COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations last year were among people 65 years and older,” Dr. Miranda Durham, chief medical officer for the department of health, said in a press release. “An additional vaccine dose can provide added protection that may have decreased over time for those at highest risk.”

Many people can still get a COVID-19 vaccine for no cost through their insurance or Medicaid/Medicare. Uninsured individuals can get the vaccine for free through public health offices, some pharmacies, or the federal Bridge Access Program. To find a vaccine provider, you can use this link.
