West Seattle and the city’s northern end saw a flurry of snow, hail and rain Saturday afternoon as March opened with cooler-than-average temperatures.

On-and-off showers brought the wintry mix to the coastal area, but it’s unlikely to collect on the ground with daytime temperatures in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will likely dip near freezing overnight Saturday, then hover in the mid-40s during the day Sunday, said Harrison Rademacher, a meteorologist with NWS Seattle.

The weather service initially expected only a few snowflakes overnight Saturday, but saw “wild weather all morning and afternoon,” when hail and snow fell on West Seattle midday, Rademacher said.

Rademacher said the showers will continue into at least Monday, with the middle of the week looking drier.
