Michael Lund OBITUARY

Michael Lund passed away on February 21, 2024 after a long battle with heart disease. Michael’s sisters, Margaret and Lisa, were with him when he passed. Michael was born in Long Beach, California and moved to San Rafael with his mother and siblings at the age of six. Michael attended elementary, middle and two years of high school at San Rafael High. Michael finished High School in Huntington Beach and then attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and College of Marin. Although Michael struggled with mental illness most of his adult life, he managed it like a pro, making many good friends along the way. Michael lived at Braun Place and Buckelew House in San Anselmo before landing a premiere apartment at the then-new EAH complex in Novato, where he lived for the last 26 years. In his younger years, Michael loved to play tennis, chess and go to the race track with his uncle and cousins. He loved photography and music, particularly seventies and eighties rock. Michael loved his 49ers and Giants, and enjoyed attending Giants game with his sister and friend John. Michael was a huge boxing fan, a passion he shared with his late mother. They particularly loved watching tapes of Muhammad Ali fights from the seventies. They also enjoyed watching the old Columbo TV series, something Michael still did in recent years, along with all of the NCIS shows. But his favorite, by far, was watching Family Guy while enjoying a sourdough patty melt from Jack-in-the-Box and a Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper. Michael was smart and funny and generous to a fault, rarely passing a homeless person without giving him the change in his pocket, and occasionally a $20 bill. He also gave monthly to the Wounded Warrior project, despite himself living on very meager means. Michael is survived by his sisters, Katie, Lisa, Margaret, Melanie, Dina, Julie and Amie, his brother Steven, many nieces and nephews, and several good friends, particularly John and Dave. Michael is pre-deceased by his parents, and his two older brothers, Jeff and Andy. Michael loved his family. He kept up on family news by regularly calling his siblings and then sharing all the happenings. His apartment was adorned with posters of his parents and siblings. His family loved him right back and will miss him dearly. There will be a private service for Michael. If you knew him, please feel free to reach out to his sister, Margaret at parkmar297@gmail.com.
