Ohio COVID-19 case numbers fall for 4th week: Coronavirus update, Thursday, March 14

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio continued the downward trend for the fourth week running, with a drop from 4,499 last week to 3,235 this week, according to state health data released Thursday.

The last time that new case numbers were nearly this low was early August, when the count was 2,991. A year ago at this same time, the new case count was 7,586.

As recently as early January, the weekly case numbers were over 15,000, at 15,046.

At least 1,318,780 Ohioans have received the updated one-dose COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 6,258 people from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 11.2% of the state’s population.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 in Ohio has reached 3,732,166.

There were 139 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 150,738. There were six people admitted into the ICU, bringing the total since 2020 to 15,773.

There were also 32 Ohioans who died from COVID-19-related issues, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 43,804. Death reporting sometimes lags by weeks.
