Darlene “Dar” Ione Anderson BRODERSON OBITUARY

BRODERSON Darlene “Dar” Ione Anderson, Age 86, Died peacefully in her Gold Canyon, AZ home on January 19, 2024 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Her niece, Debbykay Peterson, nephew-in-law, Steven Peterson, her Endeavor Hospice nurse, and her beloved dog, Zonie, were by her side.

Dar was preceded in death by her parents, Carl David Anderson and Ione Maderson Anderson Smith of Pengilly, MN; her twin brother, DarrellAnderson of Lakeland, MN; and her husband, Brodie Broderson of Gold Canyon, AZ.

Dar graduated from Greenway High School, Coleraine, MN in 1955. Then studied nursing at Gustavus Adolphus College and Bethesda School of Nursing in MN. She continued her studies at the University of MN and became one of the first graduates of the University’s nurse practitioner program. Later, she earned a Master’s Degree in business from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.

Dar lived a remarkable, dedicated and adventurous life. She was committed to making other lives better throughout her nursing career. Dar worked as a head nurse at Bethesda Hospital, St. Paul, MN for several years; established rural MN community clinics to improve access to healthcare; was a nurse administrator at St. John’s Hospital, St. Paul, MN; led and directed the quality assurance department at United Hospitals, St. Paul, MN; pro-vided leadership for quality assurance at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA; and served as a nurse consultant to numerous states and hospitals and other healthcare settings.

Dar is survived by her niece, Debbykay (Steven) Peterson of Afton, MN; nephew, Don (Edie) Anderson of Roberts, WI; four grand nieces and nephew; six great grandnieces and nephews; four step-daughters, all of CA, Karen (Sam) Toler; Barbara (Greg) Dallenbach; Jody (Richard) Lopez; Christina Jackson; and godson, Tom (Jolyn) Vanderhaar of CA; 12 step-grandchildren; 29 step-great grandchildren; and numerous friends she loved dearly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Gold Canyon United Methodist Church in Gold Canyon, AZ.
