AHSAA state tournament: Mars Hill boys basketball defeats Locust Fork in AHSAA 2A semifinals

BIRMINGHAM — Mars Hill boys dominated Locust Fork 69-47 in the AHSAA basketball boys Class 2A state semifinals Monday.

The Panthers' Eli Pounders led the game with 19 points, drilling four 3-pointers in the contest. He added seven rebounds and three assists to his stat line. Cannon Pigg finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Carson Thrasher scored 13 points for Mars Hill.

Mars Hill would outscore Locust Fork 39-25 in the second half. They led with 21 points off of turnovers and 13 second chance points. As a team, the Panthers shot 51% from the floor and 61% from the free-throw line making the game out of reach for Locust Fork.

Locust Fork's Levi White led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. Titus White added 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Locust Fork.

Mars Hill will matchup against the winner of LaFayette and Highland Home in the boys class 2A state championship game at 11:45 a.m. Friday.
