Gulf Shores police warn spring breakers of increased police presence this weekend

Gulf Shores police have issued a warning to spring breakers of increased police presence this weekend as spring break season moves into its third week along the Alabama coast.

“We will be focusing our efforts on Impaired Drivers, Drug/Alcohol violations and traffic enforcement,” the Gulf Shores Police Department posted to its Facebook page.

Through the first two weeks of spring break, Gulf Shores police have made the following arrests:

  • 67 for underage drinking
  • 12 for DUI
  • 28 on drug charges
  • 8 for public drunk
  • 6 for theft/shoplifting
  • 4 for obstruction of justice
  • 2 for resisting arrest

The police department also reminded the public there is ban on alcohol on public beaches, which runs through the end of April. Gulf Shores is also exercising a “zero tolerance” policy toward underage drinking, drugs and driving under the influence.

“We invite everyone to enjoy our beautiful beaches,” the PD posted, “but please be respectful and follow the local laws and regulations.”
