GIRLS BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • MARLINGTON 41, GIRARD 32 Chelsea Evanich scored 17 second-half points to lead the Dukes to a Division II sectional title on the road, reaching a rare milestone in the process. She surpassed 1,000 rebounds for her career. She already had surpassed 1,000 career points. Evanich finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds Saturday, pushing her career totals to 1,520 points and 1,006 rebounds. Zoe Mort added 11 points for Marlington and Allie Gill scored seven. The Dukes (11-13) advance to a district semifinal against St. Vincent-St. Mary at 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Lake High School. 
  • CENTRAL CATHOLIC 54, LISBON DAVID ANDERSON 12 Lily Belden scored 17 points to lead the Crusaders to a decisive win in a Division IV sectional final at home. Five other Central players scored at least five points. The Crusaders led 31-10 at the half before outscoring their visitors 17-0 in the third. Central (10-14) advances to a district semifinal against Berlin Center W.Reserve, at 7:30 Wednesday, at Orwell Grand Valley High School. 
  • TUSLAW 54, COLUMBIA STATION COLUMBIA 50 The 10th-seeded Mustangs went on the road in a sectional final and knocked off the No. 7 seed. Destiny Dulkoski scored 15 points for Tuslaw. The Mustangs improve to 18-5. Columbia ends its season 19-4. The Mustangs advance to play No. 3 Columbiana Crestview in a district semifinal at 6 Wednesday, at Cortland Lakeview High School. No other details were available.  
  • TUSKY VALLEY 67, BUCKEYE LOCAL 33 Leah Bourquin and Kaleigh Norris combined to score 29 points in leading the Trojans to a Division III sectional final win at home. Bourquin totaled 15 points and three rebounds, while Norris had 14 points, three rebounds and three steals. Elli Wallick added eight points, four assists and three steals. Tusky Valley (20-3) play Union Local at Indian Valley at 7 Wednesday in a district semifinal. Buckeye Local (13-11) was led by Brynn McKeever (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Pamela Kandrach (12 points, eight rebounds). 
  • GILMOUR ACADEMY 51, ALLIANCE 40 Jayla Callock scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Alliance in a Division II sectional final loss on the road.  

BOYS BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS 

  • MENTOR 91, LAKE 76 Despite a 44-point performance by senior guard Chance Casenhiser, the Blue Streaks (5-17) lost at home to Mentor (15-7). Casenhiser, who leads the Stark County area in scoring this season, hit six 3-pointers among his 17 made field goals Saturday. He pushed his scoring average to 24.3 points per game for the season. He increased his school-record career scoring total to 1,249 points.

Malvern is the only OHSAA team in the state to go 22-0 this season, regardless of division.   • EAST CANTON 72, RICHMOND EDISON 21 Caleb Shilling closed the regular season in style, erupting for 45 points and 16 rebounds in the host Hornets' rout of Edison (5-17). The 45 points break the previous single-game school record of 44 set by Jarvis Hall during the 1997-98 season. The 6-foot-10 Shilling hit three 3-pointers among his 15 field goals and made 12 of 13 free throws. Jaedyn McLeod added 11 points for East Canton, which heads to the Division IV tournament with a 16-6 record. 
  • MALVERN 70, BUCKEYE TRAIL 33 Four Hornets scored in double figures as host Malvern moved to 21-0 overall and closed IVC North play at 12-0. Rodney Smith scored 16 points, Dylan Phillips 14, J'Allen Barrino 12 and Drake Hutchison 10 for the Hornets, who will go for a perfect regular season when they travel to River (12-8) on Friday. Malvern forced Buckeye Trail (14-7, 8-3) into 22 turnovers. 
  • CENTRAL CATHOLIC 71, NORTHWEST 63 The Vlacovsky brothers combined for nine 3-pointers and 51 points as the visiting Crusaders won their fifth straight game. Sophomore Lance Vlacovsky scored 29 points and hit five 3s on his 16th birthday. Luke Vlacovsky, a junior, added 22 points and four 3s for Central (13-7). Ian Ziegler led Northwest (14-7) with 21 points.
  • HOOVER 54, WALSH JESUIT 47 Zac Braucher scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Vikings (14-7) won for the fifth time in the last six games. Braucher shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line. No details on Walsh Jesuit (11-10) were reported. 
  • GREEN 59, ELLET 29 Brady Rollyson scored 14 points and Anthony Fortunato added 13 as the Bulldogs (16-5) cruised to a home win. 
  • JACKSON 89, MEDINA 63 The visiting Polar Bears (17-4) won easily for their ninth straight victory and 14th in the last 15 games. No details were reported.

  • INDIAN VALLEY 46, CARROLLTON 44 Lincoln Mallarnee surpassed 1,000 career points and the Warriors almost got a signature win, losing a close one at home to 18-4 Indian Valley. Braylon Murphy hit a 3-pointer to put Carrollton up a point with a minute left in the fourth quarter. But Tyson Pryor answered with a 3-point play for the Braves, who would not trail again. Pryor scored a game-high 25 points. Murphy led Carrollton (9-13) with 13 points and Bryce Lonca added 11. Mallarnee finished with nine points and sits at 1,002 career points, marking the eighth Carrollton player all-time to reach the milestone. 
  • MARLINGTON 52, TUSKY VALLEY 43 Beau Himmelheber scored 16 points and Cameron Evanich added 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Dukes won on the road. No other details were available.
