The Boston Police Department wants your help naming their new comfort dog.

At about four months old, the Fox Red Labrador Retriever is really still a puppy, according to a press release from the department. She joined Boston police and began her training last week, along with the department’s latest police academy recruits.

On Friday, Boston police put out a poll on social media that offered names for the dog, including Copper, Faith, Hope and Trusty. As of noon on Sunday, Copper — a pun on both her position and coloring — was in the lead with nearly 50% of the vote.

A Red Fox Lab or a “ruby lab” is really a variation of a yellow lab, according to The Labrador Site. This breed tends to weigh around 65 lbs., grow to 22 in. tall and live for approximately 12 years.

“Brimming with intelligence, these affectionate, loyal dogs were originally bred as hunting companions,” the webpage reads. “Red Labs tend to be from working lines. That means high energy, high speed, and a mountain of enthusiasm! These sensitive dogs are keen to please and responsive to training.”

You can submit a potential name for Boston police’s new comfort dog by direct messaging the department on Facebook, or by voting on social media.
