Beverly A. Bernabo OBITUARY

The world lost a beloved wife, mother, and friend, Beverly Bernabo, on February 27, 2024, after a long illness. She was born and raised in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on January 29, 1943, the daughter of Fred and Sophie King. A true child of old New England, her youth was filled with love, family, small towns, crisp local asparagus, fresh sweet corn plucked from the stalk, and cold apple cider. She loved to share stories of her many childhood adventures, such as sleigh rides with nanny’s clydesdales, ice skating and strapping on skis to speed down the slopes of nearby Vermont. And she never really complained about the weather… much.

As life goes, fate brought Beverly to Hartford, Connecticut where she applied her extraordinary artistic talent at Pratt & Whitney as a draftsman. Her striking beauty and sparkling smile soon caught the eye of a handsome, visiting marine named Ronald from New York City. The story told is that he asked her to sew a button on his shirt. An old school romance of love letters, beautiful flowers and whispered sweet nothings helped confirm a deep bond of love. Over their inseparable 57 years together, the lovebirds, Ronnie and “Toots” called New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut home.

Beverly loved reading, cooking, crafting, and painting. She had impeccable taste and an eye for design. Her annual Christmas trees and holiday decorations were a joy to behold and certainly belonged locked behind glass on a New York City Street for all to see. She enjoyed a raucous game of cards while sipping a glass of red wine (or two) and laughing with others until she cried. Beverly shared of herself in so many ways. Her chef level talent in the kitchen may only have been surpassed by her skill as an artist. She found joy in painting portraits of friends, family, veterans, and acquaintances which are without a doubt lovingly displayed in living rooms throughout the globe. Certainly, she left this a world a better place and she will be dearly missed.

Beverly is survived by her sister, Teresa D’Anna; brother, Richard King; son, Robin Bernabo and wife Elizabeth; daughter, Nicole Bernabo and husband David Palinkas; grandchildren, David Bernabo and wife Erika, Sean Bernabo, Sidney Palinkas, and Mitchell Palinkas; nieces and cousins. The family is deeply grateful for Beverly’s caregivers and clinicians who helped her through her illness.

A private memorial service will be held to remember Beverly.
