BATHINDA: Having entered India by inadvertently crossing the India-Pakistan international border, two teenage boys will finally reunite with their families, as they have been sent back to Pakistan after nearly 19 months.
The boys, whose identities have been concealed for being minors, though were acquitted by a Tarn Taran court nearly a year ago on April 18, 2023, but a lot of time was taken to complete legal formalities for it being a cross-country issue.
The boys, who were lodged at Faridkot bal sudhar ghar (observation or correctional home), were released on Thursday and sent to the Attari border to be sent to Pakistan.
Faridkot district and session judge Ms Navjot Kaur stated that the district legal services authority (DLSA) is happy over the repatriation of the boys to their home country to get them reunited with their respective families.
The boys had inadvertently crossed over to India on August 31, 2022. Then Tarn Taran authorities caught them and sent to Faridkot bal sudhar Ghar. The Tarn Taran court finding them innocent had acquitted them on April 18, 2023. Then the process to repatriate them started but it being a cross country issue took a lot of time.
They could be released with the efforts of Punjab and Haryana high court administrative judge for Faridkot session division Justice NS Shekhawat and DLSA secretary took the boys to Attari border from where they crossed over to Pakistan.
