York police: Missing man, 76, found dead after search

YORK, Maine — A man reported missing was found dead, according to York police.

York police Detective Sgt. Thomas Cryan said Jerry Allen, 76, was found dead at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Maine medical examiner's office was notified at the scene, and police said the investigation is ongoing.

Allen was reported missing Wednesday night. He was last seen around 11 a.m. Wednesday at the American Legion in York. Police said it is believed that Allen returned to his home as his vehicle and personal belongings were at his house.

The Maine Warden Service, along with the York police and fire departments, spent Thursday searching for Allen.

Cryan said police want to thank residents for calls and tips related to the case.

"We also would like to advise that there is no threat to the public," he said.
