YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – There are 10 days until the total solar eclipse, and on Thursday morning, Mahoning County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) worked with county commissioners to outline a safety plan.

EMA Director Robin Lees said he has been regularly attending meetings involving the state and the National Weather Service.

While Mahoning County is removed from the main path of the eclipse, he said they want to be prepared.

On April 8, the EMA will partially open its emergency operations center and stay in touch with state officials.

“We are only anticipating a small uptick in traffic around the 76 and 80 interchange and maybe some additional bookings in local hotels and motels,” Lees said.

Lees added that they have passed out fliers from the Department of Health on what not to do during the eclipse, including warnings not to view the eclipse without the proper eyewear.
