He’s one of the most well-known gamers around and has been for many years with tens of millions of followers on multiple platforms. Michigan native, Ninja, says he has been diagnosed with skin cancer.
The 32-year old, who is from Taylor in Metro Detroit, posted on X (Twitter) that he was shocked to learn of his diagnosis after getting a scheduled, annual skin check.
"I’m still in a bit of shock but want to keep you all updated,” he wrote. “A few weeks ago I went in to a dermatologist for an annual skin/mole check. There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be careful. It came back as melanoma, but they are optimistic that we caught it in the early stages.”
Ninja, who has just under 24 million YouTube followers and more than 19 million followers on Twitch, says he is grateful the melanoma was found early and wants people to “take this as a PSA to get skin checkups.”
Ninja is also a big Detroit Lions fan. He attended the Lions NFL Wild Card game at Ford Field against the Los Angeles Rams this past January and he was also an honorary captain at a game a few years ago.
Ninja also appeared on Fox’s “The Masked Singer” on season 2 in 2019 as the Ice Cream. “I just wanted to step outside my comfort zone,” he said after being unmasked. “My wife and I loved the season last year. When the opportunity came and presented itself, you know, let’s just do it.”
The famous gaming streamer also said a larger area around the melanoma was removed with the hopes that under the microscope, they will see clear non-melanoma edges in the hopes it has all been removed.
