5 things to do this weekend: Hip hop fashion, FLUKE festival, Linnentown art and more

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Mar. 29-31.

Each week, the Banner-Herald will publish a list of five options for things to do in the Athens area. Please note that the events in this list are subject to rescheduling, cancelation or tickets selling out.

'Fresh Dressed'

  • WHERE: Ciné Lab (234 W Hancock Ave.)

  • WHEN: Saturday, Mar. 30 at 8 p.m. ($11 admission)

  • DETAILS: This all-night hip hop celebration will begin with a vibe set by DJ Kountry Boy followed by a fashion and art discussion panel featuring prominent Athens designers and musicians. A live music showcase of local hip hop artists will follow before a 10 p.m. screening of the 2015 documentary, "Fresh Dressed."

FLUKE Mini-Comics Festival

  • WHERE: 40 Watt Club (285 West Washington St.)

  • WHEN: Saturday, Mar. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ($2 admission, face masks required)

  • DETAILS: The 21st annual FLUKE Mini-Comics Festival is a day-long event where people of all ages can meet the creators of mini-comics, 'zines and other independent publications and support their art and writing. Exhibitor booth spaces sell out every year, and the show is a great place to shop or just be inspired.

'Linnentown Then and Now'

  • WHERE: The Lyndon House Arts Center (293 Hoyt St.)

  • WHEN: Saturday, Mar. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Free admission)

  • DETAILS: Artist and educator Caroline Ford Coleman's exhibit "Linnentown Then and Now" will open on Saturday and is scheduled to remain in the Lyndon House gallery through May 10. Coleman's paintings feature the faces of the Linnentown community placed in the current landscape of the Athens neighborhood.

Taste of the World Lunch

  • WHERE: Athentic Brewing Company (108 Park Ave.)

  • WHEN: Friday, Mar. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Free admission)

  • DETAILS: Baskat Catering owners Felix and Kat Ahmed's Taste of the World lunches offer patrons the opportunity to pair local craft brews with a different variety of international cuisine each week. This Friday, the Ahmeds offer an Indian menu that includes chicken and eggplant tikka masala, raita, naan and more.

LEGO Club

  • WHERE: Athens-Clarke County Library (2025 Baxter St.)

  • WHEN: Saturday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m. (Free admission)

  • DETAILS: At LEGO Club, all you need to bring is your imagination, because the ACC Library provides the blocks. During this event, guests up to age 11 can participate in LEGO-based activities including creating LEGO art. For questions or additional information, call the ACC Library at (706) 613-3650.
