Marketing Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Kentucky. Award winning researcher. 2023 Sheth Doctoral Consortium Fellow. I study brands as social agents with an emphasis on small and local brands. Go Big Blue.
I'm honored to have been nominated for the Gatton Doctoral Research Excellence Award and I'm excited to get to present some of my ideas. If you're in Lexington, come enjoy the lecture. If you're not, reach out to me and we can talk (especially if you want to work on new research together).
Michael Ryan Jenkins will present his research on how consumers perceive and engage with brands as social agents. His focal study, "The Entitative Effects of the And-Brand Name", draws on entitativity theory to explore how brands with an and-brand name (i.e. Barnes & Noble) are perceived as cohesive, interconnected groups leading to greater brand trust and brand preference. Michael connects this first paper with findings from his other research projects on brand embeddedness to argue that marketing should examine brands not only as social agents within consumer-brand relationships, but as social agents within broader internal and external structures of social relationships.
