Chargers News: Two Teams Begin Preliminary Talks to Sign Austin Ekeler

It seems like Ekeler is as good as gone.

The Los Angeles Chargers added a new running back to their team: former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards. The Chargers are reuniting the 28-year-old with offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

While this is a solid signing for the Bolts, it means Austin Ekeler's return seems bleak. Ekeler is an unrestricted free agent, and his chances of finding a new team are increasing. According to CBS Sports NFL analyst Josina Anderson, two teams have been linked to the 28-year-old dynamic back.

The Washington Commanders and division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, are the two teams that have made 'preliminary inquiries.'

Losing Ekeler to the Commanders would hurt the Chargers, but not as much as losing him to their division rivals. Seeing Ekeler twice a year would be devastating, especially seeing him in that silver and black.

Although he is coming off his worst year as a pro, the dynamic back was not as dynamic as in years past. In fourteen games last season, he rushed for 628 yards on 179 carries (3.5 YPC), 51 receptions for 436 yards, and six touchdowns.

A potential reunion with former Charger general manager and current Raider general manager Tom Telesco is in the cards, and the Commanders need a running back. They will remain prime candidates as free agency progresses.
