Late home run powers Texas State past No. 15 Texas at Houston's Minute Maid Park

Texas, which was unable to close out Texas State on Saturday, entered Sunday still looking for its first baseball win in Houston.

Aaron Lugo's two-run blast was the difference in Texas State's 11-10 win at Minute Maid Park. The loss dropped No. 15 Texas to 0-2 at the Astros Foundation College Classic; the Longhorns also were beaten by No. 3 LSU on Friday.

Texas (7-3) will close out the weekend against No. 9 Vanderbilt (9-3) at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Behind a leadoff home run by Ryne Farber and Chase Mora's grand slam, Texas State (7-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Texas rallied and Jack O'Dowd's three-run homer in the seventh gave the Longhorns a 9-8 edge. Texas State tied the game in the eighth before Porter Brown's solo shot in the bottom of that frame helped Texas regain the lead.

Texas got within an out of the win in top of the ninth inning, but reliever David Shaw allowed a single to Daylan Pena before Lugo provided the game's decisive swing. Texas was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.

Saturday's game was the first of three meetings between Texas and Texas State this season. Texas will travel to San Marcos on April 9, and Texas State will visit Austin the following day.
