Dorothy Meier

Dorothy Elizabeth Meier, age 95, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Windsor Heights, Iowa. A private inurnment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Dorothy was born on June 26, 1928, in Waverly, Iowa to August and Louise (Heick) Prottengeier. She graduated from Waverly High School and from there went on to Wartburg College and received her teaching certificate. After college Dorothy taught kindergarten and later worked in the media center at Western Hills Elementary for several years.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church and was also a volunteer. She enjoyed spending time with friends and sharing laughs. Growing roses, feeding the birds, and tending to her yard were things she enjoyed and found relaxing.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Janene (Dennis) Smith; sons, Joel and Steve; 3 grandsons; and one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Meier; infant son, Daniel; and two sisters.
