Emmanuel Coleman still struggles to talk about the injuries he suffered.

“You know, thanks to the Miami Valley surgery team and burn team I’m healing,” Coleman said.

He still remembers how surreal it felt the night he was injured after the car crashed through his living room.

Coleman had dozed off in his recliner and the car ended up on top of him. He was pinned for two hours as first responders worked to carefully rescue him.

“It was horrifying being up under there and that heat from that muffler on my back,” Coleman said.

The crash has inflicted all kinds of pain and suffering.

“I still got a fractured sternum. I had surgeries on my neck for ligaments. I got screws and all that on my neck. And third and fourth-degree burns on my back,” he said.

For now, the Colemans are living in a hotel. Money from their homeowner’s insurance policy is helping, but there’s a lot of uncertainty.

The crash totaled the home and has left it condemned from the structural damage.

The Colemans say they’re hoping to put the insurance check toward a downpayment for a new house, but they’re still trying to figure out exactly where and when that’ll be.

“My parents need some type of resources of help to move forward from this position,” Quanika Coleman said.

The driver fled the scene of the crash.

News Center 7 reached out to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office asking if they’ve caught the suspect yet and what charges he could face.
