Zero Motorcycles has been manufacturing in Santa Cruz County since 2006. The sleek, stripped-down smart bikes cost less than half the price of an electric Harley, with the company’s base-priced Zero S coming in at a mere $12,995. As of 2022, Zero has sold 22,000 two-wheeled EVs. Because there's no federal tax credit for EVs with two wheels, the company offers a 0% financing plan for 60 months through a partner. Zero has begun working with the firm Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) to get production started on bikes in the Philippines, for delivering Zero cycles to Europe and Asia.
