Man fatally struck when he exited disabled vehicle in Bessemer now ID’d; police searching for driver

Authorities have released the name of a man struck and killed when he exited his disabled vehicle.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified fatality victim as Corey James Terrell. He was 34 and lived in Birmingham.

The crash happened at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday on 18th Street North at the I-59/20 exit ramp.

Terrell’s vehicle had broken down in the road. He was hit when he got out to attend to his vehicle, which had mechanical issues.

The victim was taken to UAB Medical West where he was pronounced dead at 10:03 p.m.

Bessemer police Det. Jusin Burmeister said the driver of the vehicle who struck Terrell initially stopped but then left before police arrived.

They are working to find the man and the vehicle he was driving.
