3 Tornadoes Struck Southwest PA Thursday: Weather Service

The National Weather Service has confirmed that at least three tornadoes touched down in the region Thursday evening.

SOUTHWESTERN PA — Three tornadoes touched down in southwestern Pennsylvania Thursday night, the National Weather Service confirmed Friday morning. The twisters, which the weather service said were confirmed via radar, occurred in Mt. Nebo and Hampton in Allegheny County and in Buffalo in Washington County.

The storms caused property damage and knocked out power, but no deaths or injuries were reported.

As of 7:30 a.m. on Friday, 1,400 homes in Allegheny County remained without power, according to Duquesne Light's website. More than 900 were in Hampton. Duquesne Light did not offer an estimate as to when service would be fully restored.

As of Friday morning, there were no impassable roads reported on Allegheny County's Twitter feed.

The multiple tornado warnings that were issued Thursday evening as a cold front passed through the region came as a surprise. While the weather service said gusty winds were possible, severe weather had not been forecast.

Allegheny County on Thursday night reported numerous wires were down throughout Hampton, including the2200 block Linwood, 3900 block Parkview, 3900 block Ralph and the Harts Run-Saxonburg roads intersection.

The Target store in Mt. Nebo Pointe in Ohio Township had its windows blown out.

There is no severe weather threat in the region today. Expect colder temperatures and showers, with highs only reaching the mid-50s.
