The Austin Heart Ball is an annual opportunity to celebrate the progress made by the American Heart Association here in Central Texas, and to continue the nonprofit’s mission to be “a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.” Eric Gribble of DPR Construction spoke with Studio 512 about the upcoming event on May 4th.

What has this year’s campaign been focused on?

“We know that poor diet is the top reason people develop chronic diseases, and we also think that where you live should not determine how long you live. Everyone should have access to consistent, affordable and nutritious food, so we’ve been supporting our local food banks through educational materials and working to include refrigerators so pantries can store and distribute fresh produce.”

I hear the American Heart Association has a big milestone coming up.

“We do! The AHA will celebrate its 100th birthday on June 10th. Our future is about improving yours.”

Tell us about the survivor story that we’ll hear at this year’s event.

“UT football coach Steve Sarkisian will be sharing his survivor story, which we’re really looking forward to, as well as hearing from the night’s headliner. It’s really going to be a great night, and we hope that everyone can join us!”
