Nola G. Benedict OBITUARY

Nola Gene Benedict (nee Nielson), 89 of Waukegan, passed away on March 29, 2024. Nola was born in Racine, Wisconsin on January 22, 1935 to Eugene Nielsen and Katherine Nielsen (nee Mahdik). She graduated from Park high school in 1953. She was a proud Junior Bell of the Racine Bell All American Girls Baseball League. She married her beloved husband Harvey LaVerne Benedict on October 24, 1959. Together they moved to Waukegan in 1961 and were lifelong area residents since. Nola was a proud member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She worked for many years at Washington Elementary school in Waukegan. She enjoyed keeping score for Saint Paul’s softball team that both her son’s played for. She was a Chicago Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan. She also enjoyed traveling, camping trips with her family through-out the States, genealogy and family history. Nola was delighted to decorate their home for the holidays. In her later years she became ill with Dementia in which she had many caregivers that she became close with and her family is forever indebted with gratefulness. Nola’s friendly tender-hearted soul, sweet nature and kind smile will be dearly missed by many family and friends.

Nola is survived by her children Todd (Amy) Benedict, Lee (Jackie) Benedict and Lynnette (Rick) Adkins; grandchildren Evan (Morgan) Sims, Coulson (Taitum) Sims, Andrew Benedict and Jacob Benedict; great-grandchildren Braelynn Sims and Kinsley Sims ;her brother Bill (Dee) Nielsen; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harvey and both parents.

Nola’s visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 from 10:00 – 12:00 pm at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, IL 60085. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 12:30 pm at the chapel in Northshore Garden of Memories Cemetery, 1801 Greenbay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064.
