2 injured after head-on crash involving Cumberland County sheriff’s vehicle

The driver of a Cumberland County sheriff’s vehicle was taken to a hospital after being involved in a crash Monday night, authorities said.

According to the Pa. State Police, the crash took place shortly after 6 p.m. when a marked Cumberland County Sheriff unit was in South Middleton Township traveling west on West Trindle Road, passing the intersection with Horners Road with its emergency lights flashing and sirens on.

When the Cumberland County sheriff’s vehicle attempted to pass other vehicles that were also going westbound, it entered the eastbound lane, striking a Honda SUV head-on that was traveling eastbound.

The operator of the sheriff’s vehicle was taken to UPMC Carlisle for minor injuries, according to police.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Penn State Holy Spirit for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. West Trindle Road reopened shortly before 9 p.m.

The crash is under investigation.
