Flooding and damage reports around South Mississippi

WXXV is gathering flooding and damage reports from around South Mississippi. We’ll report them as we get them.

Gautier reported areas of Old Spanish Trail flooded on Tuesday afternoon that was caused by the tide and inclement weather. The roadway poses a risk to cars and low-lying vehicles. Emergency vehicles and school buses are still able to navigate through, but all other vehicles should avoid the area until the water recedes.
Motorists should plan alternate routes and avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas until they are passable.

Harrison County Fire Rescue said the severe weather and possible tornado damage from the morning storms that moved through Harrison County caused downed power lines , downed trees and damage to structures, but no injuries were reported.

The City of Pascagoula reported flooded streets around noon that abated by about 2:30 p.m. Parts of Highway 90, Market Street, Washington Avenue, Chicot Road and Pascagoula Streets all had standing water which drained off after the rain moved through.

Wiggins Police Department reported Wednesday morning that there are roads washing out and flooding. Magnolia near Flora Gene is flooded and areas are washing away. Highway 49 is under water near Star Chevrolet.  At 12 p.m., Wiggins Police reported College at the park is flooded and Border Avenue and 1st Street is washed out.

Interstate 59 in Pearl River County was closed near the 6-mile marker in Picayune because of water covering the roadway. The lanes were able to re-open just after 11:30 a.m. after water drained.

Kiln-Picayune Road in Hancock County is blocked by downed trees. Crews are in the area trying to clear roadways. There is minimal damage along Kiln-DeLisle Road and there is flooding on Highway 603 near Cuevas Road. Power is also out in the area, but Coast Electric crews are in the area.

There also is damage reported on Kiln-DeLisle Road near Kapalama Drive from high winds and rain.

The City of Gautier is aware of water at multiple spots on Old Spanish Trail caused by the tide and inclement weather. Please be advised that the roadway currently poses a risk to cars and low-lying vehicles.  Emergency vehicles and school buses are still able to navigate through, but all other vehicles should avoid the area until the water recedes. In the meantime, please plan alternate routes and avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas until they are passable.
