Dodgers’ Max Muncy Confident He Can Return to Form as All-Star Hitter
Can Max Muncy return to All-Star form this year?
While Muncy has been a solid contributor to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup over the past couple of years, he has not hit the heights that he did back in his two All-Star campaigns.
During his first All-Star campaign with the Dodgers back in 2019, Muncy hit .251 while notching 35 home runs, 98 RBIs and a career-high 101 runs. In 2021, his second All-Star season, Muncy hit .249 with 94 runs and 36 home runs.
His production then dipped in 2022, dropping to 69 RBIs and 21 home runs with a .196 average. While much of his statistical output rose in 2022 as he hit a career-high 101 RBIs and tied his career-high in home runs with 36, his batting average remained lower than his best years at .212.
Muncy acknowledged the challenges of maintaining consistent production in a recent interview with Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.
“This is a hard-ass game,” Muncy said. “There’s gonna be times you get it done and you’re gonna look awesome. And there’s gonna be other times you don’t get it done, and everyone is gonna hate you. That’s just the nature of baseball.”

Still, Muncy believes he can return to his top-hitting seasons this year. So far in 2024, Muncy has hit .250 with two home runs, eight RBIs, 13 hits and eight runs.
“With everything moving how it’s supposed to move,” Muncy said, via Harris. “I can finally get back to the approach that made me the hitter that I was for all those years.”
