Philip Allen OBITUARY

Philip William Allen, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in El Segundo where he resided for the last 33 years. He is survived by his wife Susan of 33 years, sons Michael (Ellen) of Alameda, CA, Jeffrey (Laurie) of Henderson, NV, step-children Christy (Scott) Winn of Newport Beach, Michael (Marci) Hutt of Villa Park, Taryn Hutt of NYC, and 7 grandchildren, Jake & Trevor Winn, Leah & Aubrey Hutt, Nathan Allen, Athena & Troy Allen.Phil was born October 11, 1939 in Albany, New York where he spent his childhood. He joined the US Army in 1958 and served as an engineering officer in various locations around the world and was honorably discharged in 1962. Phil began his advanced education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in upstate NY and went on to earn his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University. He moved to Southern California in the early 1970’s where he began his career in Aerospace, working for TRW/Northrop Grumman for over 30 years. Phil ran countless proposals and served as lead systems engineer on many programs. After “retiring”, Phil went on to work part time for Cal Tech, teaching Systems Engineering to numerous aerospace companies. He was a wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandfather and friend, He had a great wit, was an avid reader, loved traveling, building and flying remote control airplanes, the St Louis Cardinals, animals, sports (especially hockey, playing until he was 75 yrs), backyard BBQs and parties, and pickle ball. Phil could strike up a conversation with anyone and anywhere who was wearing a hat, shirt or jacket with a team logo on it.Phil will be greatly missed by so many. We will be honoring Phil at his Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 6th at 3:00pm at the Zimmerman Automobile Museum in El Segundo.
