27-Year-Old Man Dies in Motorcycle Collision near Matilija Creek

OJAI, CA (January 16, 2023) – Friday afternoon, a male rider was fatally struck in a motorcycle crash on Highway 33.

Police responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m., just north of North Fork Matilija Creek on January 6th.

Per reports, the rider of a southbound 2014 Yamaha motorcycle crossed over the solid double-yellow lines onto the northbound lanes. As a result, the motorcyclist collided head-on with an oncoming 2021 Hyundai.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 27-year-old male motorcyclist dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released his identity.

Officers also say the Hyundai was occupied by the 48-year-old male driver and his three passengers, a 45-year-old woman and two boys ages 8 and 12. They were all wearing their seatbelts and no one was seriously injured. Two of the passengers complained of pain and abrasions, but they declined treatment.

At this time, no arrests have been made and it was unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. The crash is still under active investigation.
