A live Way of the Cross — or Via Crucis — took place outside Mission San Gabriel on Friday, March 29 — Good Friday.

The procession, organized by Brazos Abiertos (Open Arms), a ministry at the mission, started in front of the Mission’s Chapel of the Annunciation, then made its way to the front of the museum/mission church.

The event, devoted to the Stations of the Cross, symbolizes the period of suffering before the death of Jesus Christ, described in the Bible. Christianity commemorates those moments every year during Holy Week, particularly on Good Friday, which commemorates the day of Christ’s death.

Roughly 300 folks took part in the procession.
