Car Collision Near Winona Way Resulted in Fatality

NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA (January 26, 2024) – Monday morning, a person died and another sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Watt Avenue. 

The fatal incident occurred around 11:35 a.m. in the area of Watt Avenue and Winona Way.

According to the report, a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated away before colliding with a van and a light pole.

Responding units from the CHP pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the passenger of the fleeing vehicle was transported to a hospital for unspecified injuries.

The driver of the van involved sustained minor injuries from the collision. In the end, authorities closed both the north and southbound lanes of Watt Avenue as crews cleared the scene.
