Saraland head football coach Jeff Kelly says wide receiver Dillon Alfred can “do it all.”

He’ll have a chance to show that in college for Lane Kiffin.

The rising senior committed to Kiffin and Ole Miss on Tuesday afternoon.

“Dillon is one of the hardest working kids that I’ve seen,” Kelly said. “He loves football. He loves practice. He comes with a great work ethic day in and day out. He has home run ability. Dillon had some big plays for us down the stretch and is also very good at the deep ball, going over some guys.”

The 6-foot, 180-pound Alfred chose the Rebels over Missouri, Texas A&M and Tennessee among other offers. Alfred caught 35 passes for 586 yards and 6 TDs in 2023 for the Class 6A runner-up Spartans.

“He can do it all,” Kelly said. “He can play inside and outside. He is a really smart player, and I look forward to seeing him really take off going into his senior year. He was excellent last year. He did a great job coming in and learning our system and getting better and better. I think he’s going to have an excellent career in college based on how he works. He doesn’t have off days. He has a passion to go be the best.”

Alfred is the No. 17 rising senior recruit in Alabama, according to the 247 composite rankings. He currently is rated the No. 2 receiver in the class behind only Southside-Selma’s Derick Smith, an Alabama commit.

Kelly said Alfred should have a big senior year with two-time reigning 6A All-State QB KJ Lacey returning. Also, the departure two-time Mr. Football winner and Alabama signee Ryan Williams at wide receiver should allow for others to continue to step up in bigger roles.

“I think all our guys’ roles will change without Ryan there,” he said. “I expect Dillon to be a much bigger factor just from a touch standpoint. We love to throw the ball. We are going to throw it all around the park, and we feel like he’s going to be a big asset.”

Alfred is the third Saraland rising senior to commit to an SEC school, joining Lacey (Texas) and defensive lineman Antonio Coleman (Alabama).
