HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A Connecticut man has been sentenced to prison for a New Year’s Eve shooting in 2022 that injured a Hadley man.

According to Northwestern District Attorney Spokesperson Laurie Loisel, 29-year-old Marc. A. Veturis of Waterbury, Connecticut pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Armed assault with intent to murder
  • Assault and battery by discharging a firearm
  • Attempted kidnapping while armed
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition
  • Unlawful possession of a loaded firearm
  • Transporting a firearm in Massachusetts for use of a criminal act

Veturis was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison following three years of probation. He must also undergo mental health and substance misuse evaluations and treatments, avoid drugs, take drug screenings and have no contact with the victim.

On December 31, 2022, Veturis went to the victim’s workplace on Mill Valley Road in Hadley during the day with a loaded firearm and attempted to kidnap him. Veturis then shot the man in the shoulder region and fired three additional shots in the direction of the victim while running away. Veturis got into his vehicle and drove back to Connecticut.

Hadley and State Police were able to track Veturis to Waterbury, Connecticut where he was arrested. Veturis admitted that he targeted the victim because of an incident between his former girlfriend and the victim in 2000.

The victim, a 59-year-old Hadley man, was treated for his gunshot wound.
