‘Melrose Place’ — and a certain character — will live again in latest reboot

The unexpected reboot news of the week: “Melrose Place” is returning, again. The 1992-99 nighttime soap opera — itself a spinoff of “Beverly Hills 90210″ — was brought back once already, in 2009, with a new cast of folks living around the famous pool. It lasted only one season.

This time the reboot will focus on the original characters. Heather Locklear (Amanda), Laura Leighton (Sydney), and Daphne Zuniga (Jo) are already on board, as the project is being shopped around. The new show will catch up with the group of friends (and enemies and ex-lovers) years after the end of the original show. It will open, “The Big Chill”-like, as the gang gathers after one of their friends has died. Of course the reunion doesn’t go completely smoothly; old battles resurface and new ones develop. Oh, and that murder of Sydney in the first reboot? Nevermind.

According to Deadline, more of the original cast members may return. Among the first crew: Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, Doug Savant, Grant Show, and Courtney Thorne-Smith.
