(WDHN) — The journey has come to an end for a Geneva County teen who competed on “American Idol.”

On Monday night, the judges selected their Top 24 artists after contestants performed in the “Showstoppers” round.

Samson native and Kinston quarterback Brant McCollough was not a part of the top 24 and was sent home from the competition.

McCollough says his performance in the “Idol Arena” round changed a ‘no’ vote from Katy Perry, which he received in auditions, into a ‘yes’.

“Katie was like, ‘The last time I gave you a no.’ and she said, ‘I don’t know what you did, but I like it.’ I guess that was her giving me a yes during that kind of because it got me through,” McCollough said.

McCollough says he is grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait to see what happens next in his musical career.
