Shawnee Co. Sheriff warns of ‘elimination’ game

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office took to social media on Thursday to warn residents of a game being played by local students.

According to the sheriff’s office, the game is sometimes called hide-n-seek or assassins. The way the game works is students ‘eliminate’ others by shooting them with fake weapons like airsoft guns, water guns and Nerf splat guns.

The sheriff’s office said they received several calls Wednesday for people with masks and firearms surrounding a car at an elementary school. The responding deputies determined the teens were playing the game.

The sheriff’s office said some people are mistaking the weapons for being real. This confusion can lead to dangerous and potentially deadly situations.

“We ask our community members to please communicate with your students and discuss the dangers of these actions,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Your safety matters to us!”
