Gregory Schmid OBITUARY

Greg passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, at home with his family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He “fought the good fight” with grace and dignity.Greg was born to Loren and Barbara Schmid (Frame) in Porterville, California, where he grew up. He attended college at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. His interest was always in agriculture, and he started his career as farm manager of Anderson Farms in Davis until the mid 1980s, at which time he branched into his own grass-fed Angus cattle and organic farming business. The land he farmed included much of what is now the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. His favorite place to be was on the family ranch spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. In retirement Greg enjoyed gardening, reading, family vacations, any opportunity to see his youngest daughter perform at dance, driving his classic 1955 Buick around Davis, and walks with various family pets on the ranch. Greg was a man of deep faith and integrity and was respected by all who knew him. The family thanks all who have sent condolences describing Greg as a devoted follower of Christ, source of strength, a man of wisdom, kindness, generosity, great inspiration and role model. He will be greatly missed.Greg is survived by his wife, Tammy, and his five children: Kristen and husband Ted; Eric and wife Patricia; Suzanne and husband John; Chase and wife Savannah; and Kendall. His grandchildren include Sam, Eli, Andrew, Isabella, Eloise, and Scarlett. He is also survived by siblings: Rick and wife Beth; Steve and wife Dolores; and Leslie; two nephews, Chad and Casey, and niece, Amanda; mother-in-law Brenda Wing, as well as closest friends Robin and Stephanie Riedel and their children Wolfgang and Alexis. The family is planning a private memorial in July.
