High school soccer: Plenty of Austin-area teams advance to the regional quarterfinals

Thursday and Friday were good nights for Austin-area high school soccer as plenty of teams advanced to the regional quarterfinals of the UIL playoffs. Here are the results:

Girls

Class 6A

Round Rock 2, SA Reagan 1: Kaiya Bullock scored twice to push the Dragons into the third round for a matchup with Anderson.

Anderson, 3, SA Lee 0: Gracie Ruthven, Jessica Greenway and Simone Fodo all scored, while Kendall Meachum and Charlie McCreery teamed up for the clean sheet in goal for the Trojans. Ruthven, Claire Navarro and Neve Chachanashvili all had assists.

Westlake 3, SA Johnson 1: The Chaps are back in the regional quarterfinals for the second time in three years thanks to goals by Grace Condon, Georgia Millikin and Mia Berry, AJ Carlson’s two assists and solid goalkeeping by Sophia Martin. Carter Utkov also provided an assist.

Lake Travis 3, New Braunfels 2: Halle Gray, Avery Lang and Amelia Clark all fired home shots off assists from Breckyn Ferrell, Banin Patterson and Jaz Diaz as the Cavs advanced to the regional quarterfinals. Lake Travis and Westlake will meet for the third time of the season in the playoffs next week.

Class 5A

Cedar Park 2, SA Alamo Heights 1: Vienna Tran's goal and assist and Sofia Peters' goal paced the Timberwolves to the win. Frances Tran also had an assist for Cedar Park, who will play Rouse in the regional quarterfinals.

Leander 6, Medina Valley 0: Kylie Bernal's brace, a goal and two assists from Alicia Aguinaga and goals from Paige Davis, Kensley Seaman Smith and Kalea Reynaud led the Lions. Sadie Guzman and Koraima Escobedo also had assists. Alyse Kavanaugh and Jovie Mise combined for the shutout in goal.

Georgetown 2, Lake Creek 1: Finley Newell had a goal and assist, Emie Benson scored and Dennie Decker provided another assist as the Eagles will face McCallum in the regional quarterfinals.

McCallum 1, Magnolia 0: Sarah Hauck's goal and Rylee Hissey's shutout propelled the Knights to the third round.

Liberty Hill 4, SA MacArthur 0: Jadyn Jones's brace and goals from Maelynn Rongey and Neeley Giessinger led the Panthers. Brooklyn Escobar provided the clean sheet in goal.

Rouse 7, SA Southwest 0: Jessica Aldrich’s hat trick, Kylie Snell’s brace and goals from Lilly Arellano and Shelby Wilson paced the Raiders to an impressive rout. Kayla Hehenberger recorded the shutout in goal.

Other scores: Wimberley 5, Pleasanton 0; Giddings 3, Columbia 0.

Boys

Class 6A

Vandegrift 4, SA Brandeis 1: Yandel Andrade's hat trick and Emmy Aranda's goal paced the Vipers to a dominant win. Vandegrift has a showdown with Bowie in the regional quarterfinals.

Bowie 3, SA Lee 1: Griffin Crawley, Karsten Albrecht and Jake Ciccarello all fired in goals to keep the Bulldogs undefeated on the year.

Westlake 2, SA Madison 1: William Fagerberg and Christian Mezas scored on assists from Logan Thomson and Dylan Holm to push the Chaps into the regional quarterfinals for the first time in 12 years.

Class 5A

Glenn 2, SA Harlandale 0: The Grizzlies remained undefeated and advanced to the regional quarterfinals with the win thanks to goals from Tito Don Juan and John Gomez. Keller Marchant provided the clean sheet in goal.

Pflugerville 7, Killeen Shoemaker 0: The Panthers are off to the regional quarterfinals for the first time since 2017 after an impressive blowout win. Emmanuel Castelan finished with a hat trick, which included scoring on two free kicks, to lead Pflugerville. Roberto Jaramillo had two goals, and both Mario Gonzalez and Luis Martinez tallied a goal and an assist. Nico Martinez provided three assists, with Joel Vergara and Mario Gonzalez each contributing one assist. Juan Denova recorded the shutout in goal.
