1 arrested after drive-by shooting leaves 4 injured outside Hopkinsville health department

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — A drive-by shooting outside the parking lot of a health department in Kentucky left four people — including three juveniles — injured Sunday evening, police said.

Shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, the Hopkinsville Police Department announced officers had responded to the area of the Christian County Health Department, located in the 1700 block of Canton Street, for a “shooting with multiple victims.”

During the investigation, officials determined that 23-year-old Stephen Bussell, of Hopkinsville, was driving eastbound on W 17th Street when he shot outside his moving vehicle toward a crowd of people.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, three juveniles and one adult were struck by the gunfire.

Two juveniles and one adult were taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and one juvenile was driven by ambulance to a Nashville hospital, officials said. However, there is no word on the victims’ ages or the nature of injuries they sustained.

Bussell was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree assault, seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Authorities reported more arrests are pending as an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
