MEC for health hands over certificates to 34 primary health facilities in Middelburg

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, congratulated these primary health facilities for their excellent work.

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, handed out certificates to 34 primary healthcare facilities that were accredited and certified by the Office of Health Standard Compliance (OHSC) as Ideal Clinics on Tuesday April 2 at Middelburg Hall in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The OHSC’s primary responsibility is to safeguard quality assurance of healthcare services by making sure, on behalf of healthcare users, that all health facilities are monitored, and provide health care safety measures and quality standards independently, impartially, fairly and fearlessly, so that the people continue to receive adequate healthcare services.

Manzini appreciated the hard work and dedication of all healthcare workers to ensure compliance to the OHSC, thus achieving an Ideal Clinic status.

“We are gathered here today to present certificates to 34 of the 94 facilities in the Nkangala district that have been declared compliant by the office of OHSC. It is encouraging to note that across the entire province we now boast 123 of the 292 facilities meeting the OHSC standards, with Ehlanzeni ranking second highest at 36 of 124, and Gert Sibande leading with 53 of 74.

“Facilities certified complaint by the OHSC undergo assessment every four years, with the option to request a 12-month extension after the initial four years period, allowing assessment after five years. Non-complaint and new facilities are assessed annually. This progress highlights our commitment to maintaining high standards in healthcare delivery. The OHSC serves as a crucial regulator, ensuring that healthcare facilities adhere to required minimum quality standards of care, and we must continue on this path of excellence,” said Manzini.
