DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is co-hosting a Wednesday blood drive, and two deputies are among those encouraging residents to donate.

Deputy Jeff Pelle was injured in the line of duty on New Year’s Eve 2017. Deputy Detective Dan Brite was injured in the line of duty in September 2016.

Both men say donated blood helped save their lives.

“It’s stuff you don’t even think about, take for granted,” said Pelle, a husband and father of two. “They’re gonna have blood for you. They’re gonna take care of you.”

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office and Vitalant are hosting a blood drive.

The blood drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and Events Center, 500 Fairgrounds Road. Space is limited.

“That day, I wouldn’t be here, without it,” Pelle said of the donated blood that saved him.
