Why Harry told Meghan about Taj Mahal photo There are three passages tenuously connected to India in the book, Spare, by Prince Harry. The first one is when he talks about how he struggles at Eaton and does really badly at his exams and is not very good at studies. He says: “What troubles me most was how I went out of my way to avoid books…” King Charles, Harry says of his father, was the exact opposite and he loved Shakespeare and Henry V and compared himself to Prince Hal, the young Henry V. And then Harry writes that there were “multiple Falstaffs in his life like Lord Mountbatten, his beloved great uncle”. Falstaff is a fictional character, a drunkard who hangs out with dodgy characters and leads Prince Hal down the wrong path.The next connection to India is when Harry talks about the birth of Archie, Meghan's child. He says he played remixed Sanskrit shlokas and mantras and it helped Meghan deliver her baby. The final reference is when Harry and Meghan were dating and had gone for dinner to celebrate Doria’s -- Meghan's mother -- 60th birthday. He writes that Meghan had just done a trip to India working on menstrual health management and education access for young girls after which she had taken Doria on a yoga retreat in Goa. Before Meghan had left, Harry had advised Meghan: “Do not take a photo in front of the Taj Mahal.” She asked why and Harry had explained that his mother – Princess Diana -- had posed for a photo there and it had become iconic and he didn't want anyone thinking Meghan was “trying to mimic” his mother. Meghan, of course, had never heard of this photo and found the whole thing baffling -- and Harry loved that. Why are the super-rich leaving UK?This started as a story in The Daily Telegraph with the headline ‘Britain loses its shine.’ It’s based on data from Henley & Partners, which sells these “golden visas” to different high net worth individuals around the world who want to go and live in another country. They have produced data on where these high net worth individuals are migrating. In the olden days the UK was up there at the top with other countries like Australia in the USA as one of the top countries that these rich people would want to migrate to. So people were flocking to the UK -- from China, the Middle East, Africa, Asia. But the story says that since 2017 the reverse has happened and now multimillionaires are leaving the UK and going to live in other countries – sort of an early trend that gives you an early sign of what's happening with the country and the economic prospects of that country. Since 2017, around 12,000 high net worth individuals have migrated out of the UK. The analysts point out that 2016 was Brexit. Other factors cited include the UK raising taxes, very high inheritance tax and scrapping of the golden visa where one could come and live in the UK provided you invest a million pounds in UK shares and companies. Then there's also been some scandal about the Nom-Dom status – the one Rishi Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murty, has -- where you can live in the UK but you don’t have to pay UK taxes on any foreign income. Also a lot of rules have been brought out regarding this making it less attractive. Basically, the report says, the UK is becoming less and less attractive for the super wealthy and they’re choosing to go elsewhere – places like the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Singapore, Israel, Switzerland, the USA, Europe, Portugal, Greece, New Zealand and Canada. The highest net outflows of the wealthy are coming from countries like Russia, China, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the UK and also India. Sari exhibitionAn exhibition called the Offbeat Sari will be showing at the Design Museum in London from May to September.
